One day about half way through the year, we were stopped for a while, so I finally took out my headphones and looked out the window. The two girls were hugging each other in fear and pointing to their left, so I looked and there was a wolf less than thirty feet from where I was sitting. xD
Unfortunately the wolf was tied to a tree, so someone must have been keeping it as a pet, so it wasn't able to be released to the wild - last I heard they ended up taking it to the zoo. Oddly enough at the time there was construction on a casino nearby, so a lot of the animals were moving south, so in the time after that we got turkeys, turkeys, more turkeys and now we got a deer.
Are you positive it was a wolf rather than just heresay? Many people tend to mistake coyotes as wolves or wolf-dogs as actual wolves when indeed they aren't. But of course, it's always possible. It's just something to keep in mind if you ever come across a "wolf" again or get close to one... but just because something "may" be a hybrid between a wolf and a domestic dog doesn't mean it's any less dangerous than a wolf itself.

Our local zoo has wolves. During the summer I volunteer to help out, so I get to see the wolves there everyday. One time, one of the zookeepers let me touch one.

Being on an island, I already know what animals are and aren't here. Wolves are on list of not being here. Oh well, it would probably be nice if I could.

Careful there. They may be "captive" but they can be just as dangerous when you are up close like that.

Back in Russia, there was a sanctuary with wolves. They were kept in pretty large cages, and they were a bit... domesticated if you can say so.
By this, I say that they let you pet them, and they even can lick your hands. I guess that I was as close as I can be to a dog, like, petting them. I must say, I enjoyed that moment, but I also knew that in the next moment, they could have bit me, since they are wild animals.

Close enough to touch them. I visited Shy Wolf Sanctuary in Florida a few weeks ago. I got to pet a few wolves. One wolf named Tien even licked everyone's faces.

They're in this video I made about my trip to Florida:

I never really got close to any wolf. Even my zoo doesn't have then :( My brothers on the other and came extremely close to a wolf in the wild. It slowly walked out in front of them looked at them then continued into the woods. (scary thought)

I got close to wolves recently, for my birthday, i did actually Go to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, though the tour to get close to wolves and pet them did not happen, because i guess you had to be 18 or older, that annoyed me, but i still got to see the wolves, and howling would randomly start breaking out in the sanctuary, so i finally started howling back, one of my friends said my howls sounded real, like another wolf in the sanctuary :) but when i howled they actually howled back to me! But then a little annoying girl who kept whining the whole tour about having to walk, kept trying to howl, you could tell it was a human of course, but im sure she would get better over time, they didn't howl back to her lol, maybe the reason why they answered me is because apparently i am good a mimicking sounds, also i like to go on youtube a lot to hear wolves howling and then practice my howls on the hill behind my house, i call it my territory :) but when the whole group howled, we got a really good response, every single wolf howled back to us, even the coyote in the sanctuary answered back lol :) it was a very cool birthday even though i didn't get up close and personal to them.

wow!
this was a really nice birthday. :D
I think was 12 or 13 years old, at a wolvehowlnight. Since in a large enclosure are 5 Arctic wolves.
A woman howl into the microphone and the wolves howled back. And i was live behind the enclosure.
There for the first time I've seen a wolf up close.
I was there 3x
it is really nice *-*

That does sound cool :) i dont know why everyone doesn't love wolves as much as people on wolfquest, they are i would say one of the most intelligent, cutest, and most powerful animals :) I have this new book about wolves that i had actually got on my birthday :) It said that the alpha pair even try to train thier pack to hunt prey in safer ways by doing things like taking a deer leg and whacking any wolf who comes at them from the from, simulating a kick from prey, but when they came from behind they would run and not whack them, or wolves i guess also will put snow in their mouths when getting ready to ambush prey so their breath isn't visible to the prey, and also the alpha female will choose different kinds of prey for what the pack needs, such as higher fat content in the winter like buffalo, so smart! :) I hope to one day get even closer to wolfies and have my face be licked my one :)

Allow me to break the ice. In a nutshell, the stuff you read in that book was non-factual. Wolves do not train their packmembers, nor do they put snow in their mouths (which wouldn't work much anywho because they mostly breath out their noses). And the 'Alpha-Beta-Omega' ranking system was found to be flawed and completely untrue. Wolf packs are simply family groups lead by two parents and their siblings and children, there is no ranking system. This also means any sort of roles you read that were designated for the alpha pair are also untrue. Those books made wolves out to be much smarter and human-like than they really are.

I was talking about the alphas, not any ranking, which you would just call the breeding pair, but i still cal them the alpha pair, and what i mean by "training" is that... here this is what it said: "The alpha female indicates her intention to hunt deer by taking a previously cached leg to teach the pack what to look for, and how to catch it. If the wolves approach her from the front, she will demonstrate potential dangers by turning her head from side to side, and by hitting them with the leg to simulate a kick." See? shes just warning them of potential dangers...

Two days ago I went to a wildlife safari place. You got to drive around and walk on trails. So, we hiked the trail through Wolf Canyon and got to see about four gray wolves in a large enclosure. The nearest one was about 100 feet away, I'd say, but they got up and moved around a bit.

(Sounds like a Shaun Ellis claim... definitely familiar. May want to check out this thread : http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=67452
Like Tarb pointed out, it's not as accurate as you think. )

Anyway, my family recently discussed going to a nearby park that, if I remember correctly, once had wolves. Don't think we'll be going though at this time, so I won't be getting close to any wolves anytime soon.

There is a wildlife preserve just right outside of Red Rock Canyon that has a wolf enclosure. I got to come face to face with a wolf, maybe like 4 feet away. I knelt down to come to the wolves eye level and could see so much sadness in her eyes. It was actually pretty sad. It made me want to set her free. I hate seeing these beautiful animals locked up and not allowed to roam freely. At least if the enclosure was bigger it would have set my mind at ease.
