How close did you ever get to a wolf?

Cool story, Mac-tire.

Now, I live relatively close (less then 8 hours drive) to a couple sanctuaries. Because of this, I have howled with, walked with and seen many captive wolves and wolf-dogs. In fact, I have petted at least three on several occasions. It is really neat to be close enough to touch one of the ambassador wolves. One time, a wolf called Forest tried to eat my hat.

I never a wolf before or never got close to it. If i went close to a wolf i'll freak out and wet myself Lol And if i got a wolf i will maybe get it as a puppy to remember me as always.

Yes I have... I have visited all zoos at my country and a few from Sweden. Almost every zoo has a wolf cage. I have actually even touched one when I was young, learned afterwards that they are dangerous and touching caged animals is forbidden

Anyway, luckily I touched it at the back and did take my hands safe quickly enough (the wolf did come close to me, but I don't honestly think it was going to hurt me for touching. Maybe it was just curious...).

I have seen wolves at Lakota Wolf Preserve in NJ and the WCC

The closest to a wolf I have ever pet was 98% wolf, which I do quite frequently and take him for walks, etc.
Here is a picture of him on one of our walks. I work with wolfdogs of call content from low/no to very high - near pure.

Well I would say about a couple yards. The wolf was right next to the fence, it was so cool! ^^ (This was at my local zoo)

Hmm... I don't remember. I think I may have seen wolves in a zoo once, though I can't swear to it that we ever looked at wolves... I was young at the time, so I really can't recall much details other than seeing serpents and large felines... Ack. My brain is confetti. xD

I would love to see wolves in person rather than in imagery or videos. :3

Once when I was at a lake I got to pet a 90% Wolf 10% German Shepherd Hybrid so I guess that is pretty close. Also, There was a pack of around five wolves in my backyard once, chasing a deer. It was a really awesome experience during both of them.

I actually have gotten really close to a wolf

but sadly it was a couple of years ago and i had not yet figured out the true, full awesomeness of wolves

it was captive, I was at the petsmart and we were just walking through and i saw it, the guy let me pet it! IT WAS SO CUTE!!!

But my birthday is in July and so for my birthday i want to go to the Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, i have heard about some tour that i think you can meet the wolves and get close to them and pet them or something! So i am possibly going to see more wolfies soon when i will appreciate it more than last time i saw one.

It was likely either a husky or a hybrid... even with a hybrid I'm not sure if it or a wolf/exotic animal would be allowed in a pet store. Wolf-dogs are even illegal in some states. Don't always believe someone in those situations.

As for the question, yes, I have gotten close to a wolf. I was at a park and they offered a program where you were educated and then given instructions on how to give the wolf food. It wasn't direct, though - I was standing upon a balcony and the wolf was below, so I was out of reach. It involved the clicker as well but I don't remember specifics. Back then I knew nothing about wolves but still liked them, so I'm sure I missed my opportunity to correct some inaccurate information. 100% bet someone started talking about wild wolf pack hierarchy inaccurately.

i dont think any one should go walk up to some random wolf and start touching it,
acctully its a very BAD idea, because i mean i could bite your hand off! but ya its possible to build a man-wolf relationship. (no im not talking about like Jacob and bella.... that doesnt count) but i would be a risk you would have to take yourself.
(and if i was you it wouldnt take that risk, its like jumping off a cliff into shark infested water) So i say DO NOT try to get close to that wolf!!

Even if it's "possible" wolves are not tame dogs and you cannot "tame" a wolf; it will simply never take the place of a domestic dog (and even then, our domestic friends can be just as dangerous) and that is something important to recognize.

But yes, I certainly wouldn't recommend getting close to a wolf either... just view them in zoos, folks.

Closest I was to a living wolf, about an inch away - maybe less. Of course, there was a layer of glass, but still. Those eyes are so beautiful - it's like it's searching through your soul.

Outside of captivity though, I was maybe 50-80 feet away. He was the Dominant of the Lamar Vally pack, in Yellowstone. Razzy was a happy girl. :]

Me, my dad and my sister were on a trip to Yellowstone and we were in Slough Creek. I forgot exactly where we were but it was a large field with a large hill covered in trees. Some people had these amazing telescopes and claimed they saw wolves so one man let us look through his. It was really far away so all I could see was the most obvious white one. Then they disappeared in about a minute and that was the only wild wolf we saw.

Then we went to a place in West Yellowstone that had grizzly bears, black bears and wolves. In that instantance, we were about ten feet from a wolf. It was great either way and I've always wanted to see another one.

When I was in the sixth grade, I had to start taking the bus to school again. To get to the school, we had to go through a road in a forest to pick up these two sisters at their house. One day about half way through the year, we were stopped for a while, so I finally took out my headphones and looked out the window. The two girls were hugging each other in fear and pointing to their left, so I looked and there was a wolf less than thirty feet from where I was sitting. xD
Unfortunately the wolf was tied to a tree, so someone must have been keeping it as a pet, so it wasn't able to be released to the wild - last I heard they ended up taking it to the zoo. Oddly enough at the time there was construction on a casino nearby, so a lot of the animals were moving south, so in the time after that we got turkeys, turkeys, more turkeys and now we got a deer.
