How close did you ever get to a wolf?

I wouldn't encourage having a wolf hybrid, because when you mix a dog's bravery with a wolf's power and instinct, you can get a very dangerous animal.

Same here. We bought a German Shepherd a few years ago and we did not know it was about to almost kill my friend o3o. So we contacted the seller and he said that it was a wolf mix (around 65%)! So I learned my lesson, always check the dog (or in this case a wolf) breed and mix...

The closest I've ever been to wolves was at a zoo... they came right up to the fence, so I was a few feet away from them.

I've never actually seen a 100% wolf in person; I've seen high level wolf dogs, but never wolves. The only zoo's within two hundred miles of where I live are very small, and one of my parents has a general fear of large animals (< wolves), so I don't think I'll be seeing one anytime soon either :P I hope to see a real lived wolf one day, though.

When I went to Canada we visited the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Centre and we got fairly close to them and got to howl with them.
The only kind of exotic animals [ones that not many people come in contact with] I've got to touch/pet are cheetahs and meerkats x3

I help take care of the 2 (3 if you count the dingos) at the zoo, so I reasonably close often; though we have a rule about never going into the enclosures alone

I have got really close before like very close me and my friend were walking back from his uncles house and we saw a wolf standing on the edge of the woods it was so cool!!!

That sounds bad, tho wolves dont normally attack humans so. Anyway, I try to stay on the other side of the cage unless I know I can touch them...

I went to the UK Wolf Trust, a organization that helps wolves, and they have wolves there to help educate people. I managed to be right on the edge of the bars that marked the area where this wolf was kept, and she gazed into my eyes....it was a great moment.

Same here. Wolves aren't my favorite animals but I would enjoy seeing them more often.

I was walking to school sense i missed the bus, and i saw this dog. (or so i thought) But as i looked at it more, i realized it was a wolf. It was standing in the town woods, were nobody really goes cause the owner of the woods said its haunted. But i was looking at this wolf, and i had no doubt in my mind that it was anything else. I so wanted to call it over, but its puppies called it first. it was a black wolf, and it had orange eyes.

I was close to one, in a sense, once in my life. It was about twelve years ago in East Texas, and I was walking along the outskirts of town. I was in a goofy mood, though a good-goofy sort, so--I howled. Top of my lungs. I'm sure I wasn't fooling anything or anyone.

Heard a few coyotes howl, probably telling me I wasn't fooling anyone--then I heard it. A long, lone howl of a wolf, and it seemed about fifty yards to my left in the trees somewhere. Like many other posters here, I know the difference between a wolf howl, a coyote howl, and a dog howl, having been into wolves since I could wrap my wee brain around the concept. Only time he or she howled, though I tried again. The second time, only a coyote howled, and a dog apparently decided I was making too much of a ruckus.

Now, since then I've heard conflicting accounts of whether there are or were wolves in that area, if there might have been half-breeds, or anything else. Also, I'm normally a very skeptical person--I require evidence of a claim to believe it, and I do believe that extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence--but in this case I have nothing but a lifetime spent devouring anything and everything related to wolves to offer. I know it was a wolf that howled, even though it was probably something like, "Nice try, but don't give up your day job."

Still, I was close to a wolf in a sense. Pretty darn close, I'd say.
