Well, I didn't used to give the NPCs nicknames, but now that I'm playing Lord of the Rings style...

Bears = trolls
Coyotes = orcs
Cougars = Ringwraiths/Nazgul
Stranger wolves = Southrons if they're from the territory by Bison Peak, Barrow-wights if they're from the territory by Aspen Heights
Eagles = Flappy thingies (don't ask, it's an inside joke)

I also renamed the den sites...
Aspen Heights = Lothlorien
East Creek = Minas Tirith
Saddle Meadows = Edoras
Bison Peak = Ithilien

Nope, I'm not obsessed at all. :wink:
Out of doubt, out of dark, to the day's rising
I came singing into the sun, sword unsheathing
To hope's end I ran, and to heart's breaking
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!

Foxes = FAAAAAHX

Ahahahaha! I love it! Adding on to it, Canyon Cliffs should be Rivendell!

I feel like Bob is the universal nickname for the bear, although I myself had a fondness for "Pooh".
In my head, all coyotes are automatically Kya; mostly after the sound the real animal makes. I'm a huge fan of Carl as the cougar, too, and Ren for the little fox (any Star Wars fans around here?). All elk are a combination of Dinner and Bambi, with the exception of The Bull Elk, whose name I revered.
Used to have names for the stranger wolves, too, but I'm afraid I can't remember them.

And who could forget the eagle? My personal favourite: "NONONONONO AAAAAAAAAAAA NONONO.".

The black cat that hisses and jumps at you in Lost River also counts as an NPC.
Coyote - Carl/Carla
Bear - Bob
Stranger Wolves - Thunder, Storm, etc
Cougar - Corey (male cougar) Carey (female cougar)

I've caught myself calling the bears "Chicken Nugget" so i'd be chasing one away from the pups on 2.5, and my little brother and sister would look at me like (O.O) because i'd be like "Come here chicken nugget! Get back here!"

I have plenty of those....

Male grizzly: Bob
Female grizzly: Bobette (Don't correct me, spell-check, players have been calling female bears BOB for years!)
Male coyote: Carl/Fuzzy
Female coyote: Carla/Tiny

Male cougar: Khan
Female cougar: Kara
Eagle: GO AWAY NO ONE LIKES YOU

Male fox: Fluffster
Female fox: Claire (I don't know why...)
Hare: Breakfast
Cow elk: Lunch
Bull elk: Dinner
Calf: Fancy luxury dinner for adults AND pups

Puppies: Cupcakes (What, I love cupcakes!)
Stranger wolves: Robbers and puppy stalkers
And that's my list! :wink:
Berries and cupcakes are nice and all, but Berry-Cupcakes are the most superior! - Me

I heard someone in multiplayer call the cat in Lost River sassy.
