What are your techniques for hunting elk?

Post by brownwolf » Thu Jul 09, 2009 11:53 pm

What are your favorite techniques for hunting elk?

When I hunt in multiplayer, I herd the elk to a specific area where the other players wait. Then they amubush it. If it runs away, I chase after it and let it turn a little so I can get behind it and do it again.

Well, if I'm on mutliplayer, I get to rally first, then lead the pack to the hunting area, chose one of the elks or maybe the bull. Chase them, taking turns in biting the elk, when I have the chance, I run until I reach the neck and jump over the elk's neck and then bite.

It depend if I am on multiplayer or singleplayer.

In multiplayer, my technique is similar to yours brownwolf. We usually pick out the weakest elk, or if we are feeling ambitious, the bull and get it away from the herd. Once it is alone we herd it to a few waiting wolves. From there we all take turns biting it. If there is a nearby carcass it helps to munch on that when health gets low.

In singleplayer, I don't really have much of a technique. Mostly I just pick out the weakest elk, drive it away from the herd, and let my mate bite at it till his health gets too low. Then i go in and finish it off.

One thing I think really helps is to Press the "o" button for your camera. It allows you to get a better view of your surroundings and herd the elk better. ^_^

I think there are already a few topics like this though, so maybe you should go check them out.

In MP I do what Dazzleberry does.

In SP I just pick the weakest cow I wait for it to stray a little from the herd. I bite it then my mate follows til its dead. I fits a bull I only kill one when there all lot of carcasses around. I bite it til its dead. :|

Hmmm.. I like your MP tatic, Dazzle. I think I'll start using that, if you don't mind. xD

And my single player is pretty much similiar to yours Dazzle. ^_^ Although sometimes I run away to find a carcass to regain my health.

On multiplayer I use brownwolf's technique, but on single player I usually chase the elk, bite it, wait for it to turn around, and bite again.

Ah, I like to wait for them to turn around as well. It actually helps, if they are faster than you anyway.

single player- find one of the weakest cows, then i will bit it a couple times, then try to get around it and bit its neck

Multiplayer- Rally, then go after the bull elk, and take turns biting it

So is biting it on the neck the most affective?

I believe so. It can be hard to do it, though.

I usually always go for the neck, on singleplayer and multiplayer.

Now that I have a mate on both my files, it's easier, but I would generally scatter the herd, look for the weakest one, and cut her from the rest, chasing her FAR away (and biting when I get the chance) I then take shifts of Run - Bite then rest to regain stamina, and repeat.
when I do bite, I hold the button as long as possible. when the elk is on extremely low health (starts backing up) I don't bite until my stamina refills completely...I also would sometimes dash quickly around to the flank before she could turn back to face me and bite there to be out of the way of her attacks, it seemed to work, but I'm not sure if those times were just glitches or what. that was before I had a mate though, now generally, all I have to do is make sure the target doesn't get away and my mate just keeps the pressure on for me while I rest. life's a lot easier now! In single, I run in, dash up the side, jump and attack the neck while my mate harasses the elk.

In Multi, me and my friends just surround it, bite like maniacs and die an average of three times. xD

well,on single player (my i-net upload rate is too small for MP ) I seek out the weakest elk, then chase and bite it till it turns around (you know when it hits back as you bite it,I wait till my energy (green) is full, bite the elk (keeping [space] pressed till my energy is drained) and then just walk forward 'into' the elk so it can't hurt me,while waiting for my energy to refill...then kill it

I just herd the weakest cow as far away as possible, then let my mate take over. I try to get ahead and attack from the front, but it isn't easy to outrun an elk, or my mate!

So many places to go.
I don't sit around waiting,
I go find them
